Clubs of Departments

Young Speakers Association  (PG Department of English)

Young Speakers Association was created in 2002 with an aim to groom and prepare College students for communication particularly in the competitive arena. The students are taught the art of rhetoric and impactful speaking. YSA organises Inter-class and Inter-college competitions of Debates, Declamations, Poetry Recitation etc. Students are also prepared for competitions in Zonal and Inter-Zonal Youth Festivals, Local and National Level Competitions. Students of BCom I are trained for communication skills and Personal Interviews.    

Mosaic Literary Club

Mosaic Literary Club was formed on Feb 12, 2016. This Club encourages students to develop their own powers of expression, empathy and critical reading and thinking. The Club organises various creative writing competitions like Short Story Writing, Poetry Writing, and Essay Writing etc. The Club also prepares students for Creative Writing competitions in Zonal and Inter-Zonal Youth Festivals and other Local and National Level Competitions.

SGGS College Physics Association

To commemorate World Science Day, Physics Association organised a special lecture on Nov 12, 2018 with the objective of  enhancing the presentation skills of postgraduate students. Around 20 PPT presentations were presented by students on various experimental topics and techniques in different fields like Nuclear Physics, Electronics, Material Sciences, and Optics etc.

Biotech Society

Biotech Society encourages students to take part in various competitions and to attend conferences held in various institutions.

Techmates Club

Techmates Club has been set up with the objective of offering a conducive platform to its students to develop their technical and creative abilities. A brief report of the activities of the Club is as follows :

Expressions Club 

The objective of the Club is to explore the talent of  Commerce / Management Students. The Club organises annual fest every year.

Social Awareness, Training & Development

Electoral Literacy Club

The Club was actively involved in engaging future and new voters through extra-curricular interventions though out the session 2018-19.

Red Ribbon Club (RRC)

The RRC is supported by Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, UT, Chandigarh. The main aim of the Club is to carry out various activities to create AIDS awareness among students and society.

Campus Beautification Committee

The Campus Beautification Committee in association with the Deptt of Botany organised various events and drives, whilst consciously keeping in mind their motto for an ECO-FRIENDLY campus environment.

Environmental Society

The  Society has been instrumental in holding various awareness drives, seminars and workshops to provide students an ideal platform to discuss various environment related issues for sustainable development.

Innovation Cell

Innovation Cell of the College was formed on Nov 03, 2018. The Cell organised a lecture on Entrepreneurship and Skill Development on Feb 08, 2019. Mr Balbir Singh, Former Vice President of NITCOM addressed the students and discussed various aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship as a career option. He ensured his assistance to those who want to start their own business.

Equal Opportunity Cell

Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) was inaugurated on Feb 22, 2019. Dr Vinod Kumar Choudhary, Deputy Coordinator, Equal Opportunity cell - PWD PU, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest. The Cell facilitates creative interaction and promotion of equality among all the students belonging to disadvantaged groups such as SCs, STs, Women, OBC, minorities and physically challenged. The Cell ensures that these nation builders from diverse backgrounds of community realise their full potential and are not deprived of their rightful opportunities. The basic aim of EOC is to ensure equity and equal opportunity to the community at large in the College, to bring about social inclusion and  to enhance the diversity within the campus. It is incumbent upon the Cell to oversee the effective implementation of policies and programmes for disadvantaged groups, to establish coordination with Government and other agencies/organisations, to provide guidance and counselling with respect to academic, financial and other social matters.

Media Cell

The College Media Cell works with the motto, 'Informing, Awakening' to fulfil its social responsibility to reach out to the community and provide information of the events of the College. The current session achieved 100% coverage of about 60 events assigned to the Media Cell. News was published in leading newspapers like Hindustan Times, The Tribune, The Times of India, Dainik Bhaskar, Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala, Punjab Kesari, Punjabi Tribune, Ajit, Chandigarh Dak (online news) and others.

Training and Placement  Cell

The Training and Placement Cell, established in 2003, has been organising various recruitment drives, workshops, lectures and interactive sessions with experts to help each student in exploring placement opportunities. It invites various companies for campus recruitment of students who are likely to graduate at the end of the academic session. The Cell encourages students to put forth their demands and requirements to enhance employability. 

Legal Literacy Club

 The core purpose of the Club is to spread Legal Literacy and awareness among the students and to make the students responsible citizens of the country.

 To mark the celebration of International Women's Day, the Club organised an expert lecture on Human Rights of Women: International and National Scenario by Dr Jyoti Rattan from Deptt of Laws, PU Chandigarh. Dr Rattan recounted the history of International Women's Day to spread awareness of women's rights, gender equality and empowerment at International and National level. She mentioned the important international instruments relating to women such as CEDAW 1979. She revealed that the theme of this year is Think Equal, Build Smart and Innovate for Change.                      

Other Societies and Clubs

Vikalp is a club instituted to hone the Hindi Speaking Skills of the students.

Punjabi Sahit Sabha promotes interest among students in Punjabi Language and Literature. It encourages writing as well as speaking skills.

Dr Salim Ali Zoological Society organises various events and visits for the better understanding of the subject.

The Economics Society was formed by the faculty and students of the PG Deptt of Economics in 2011 to spread love for the subject and build dedicated commitment towards this dynamic and multi-faceted subject amongst its students.

Chemical Society formed by PG Deptt of Chemistry organises various activities such as expert lectures, educational trips, Fresher and Farewell parties for the science students.

Gurmat Vichaar Sabha

GurmatVichaar Sabha functions in the College as a medium to amalgamate modern and contemporary life with the long cherished traditional values. The volunteers of Gurmat Vichaar Sabha recite Kirtan on every Sangrand.

Alumni Association

The alumni of our institution have been a constant source of inspiration for the students. Over the years the College has produced a diverse range of quality human resource, which is serving the nation at prestigious positions in Government, Civil Services, Armed Forces, Entertainment Industry, Sports at National and International level, Medicine, Education, Politics, Social Work, Business, etc.

The Alumni Association has sponsored various College activities for the welfare of students which include Provision of Braille Books for the visually impaired students and Sponsorship of inter college competitions organised by Expressions Club of the College. 

Students Welfare Offices

Dean Student Welfare (DSW)

The office of the DSW plays a crucial role in mobilising and guiding the College students for an active role in the democracy of the country. The students are encouraged to be a part of College governance through the agency of democratically elected Student Council which holds regular meetings to address student complaints and also forwards their constructive suggestions to the higher authorities. The nature of Student Council is advisory and exists primarily for the betterment of the students. General elections are held annually by the students in the month of September, conducted under the supervision of the DSW, who ensures peaceful conduct of elections.

A substantial intake of girls students creates a need for sensitivity to the needs of girl students

Grievance Redressal Cell and Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell

Grievance Redressal Cell has been constituted to provide students with a healthy and congenial environment. 

An Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell has been constituted as per the orders of the esteemed DHE, UT Chandigarh. Dr. Meenu Soni (PG Department of Economics) is the convener of the Anti Sexual Harassment Cell. Ms. Pooja Bhagwan, Ms. Purnima, Dr. Saroj Bala, Sh. Harjeshwar Pal Singh and Dr. Ranber Singh are the members of the cell. Notices regarding rules and regulations are displayed on the notice boards to make the students aware and conscious of their rights.

Anti Sexual Harassment Cell in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club has organized An Inter College Online Quiz Competition “LET’S GET QUIZZICAL” on 13th June 2020. It has also organized Online Inter- College Poster Making Competition on 11th July 2020 in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club.

Foreign Students Welfare

The office of Foreign Students Welfare looks after the welfare on International Students. This year the College enrolled 50 foreign students hailing from Afghanistan, Nepal and Tibet in undergraduate and postgraduate courses out of which 35 students were sponsored by ICCR and 15 students were studying on self-finance basis. The students participated in various national and international conferences, seminars and debate competitions. The College team of foreign students from Afghanistan represented the College in WOSY (World Organisation of Students & Youth), International Conference held at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
