POSTGRADUATE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Sociology started in the year 1966 with the establishment of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Chandigarh by the Sikh Educational Society. Over the years, the preference of opting Sociology as elective subject at undergraduate level has substantially increased, giving strong foundation to introduce Honours Course in the year 2003. This gave impetus to run Postgraduate Course initially on co-opt basis with the Department of Sociology, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women for two years 2016-17 and 2017-18. Consequently with the progressive vision and support of the College Management, the Department started its Postgraduate Course independently in 2018 with a batch of 60 students. The Department enrolls students with diverse National and International backgrounds. The Department is a student-centered, diverse and inclusive learning community that engages in critical social inquiry extending knowledge to enrich individual and public life.
