About the Club:

In order to promote gender equality, guaranteed by Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, Government of India has started Gender Champion club to enhance the outreach for creating an environment that fosters equal treatment across the country. It is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Human Resource Development. Keeping this in context, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sec 26, affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh has constituted the Gender Champions Club to sensitize the youth towards gender equality. The insignia of the College with the motto [All mankind are one] carries the values of Equality enshrined in Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) College has been committed to academic excellence with holistic education for youth encompassing, academic, co-curricular activities, sports and life skills. This Club facilitates youth to learn and impart knowledge on gender equality while helping in achieving the vision and goal of the College on holistic development of its students to prepare them for Nation’s better future.

Vision:

Gender Champions are envisaged as responsible leaders who will facilitate an enabling environment within College campus where girls are treated with dignity and respect. They will strengthen the potential of youth to advocate for gender equality and monitor progress towards gender justice.

Objective:

The broad mandate of a Gender Champion is to provide an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to understanding the social and cultural constructions of gender that shape the experiences of women and men in society. The aim is to make the young boys and girls gender sensitive and create positive social norms that value the girls and their rights.

Activity Organized:

Interactive Session on Youth & Cyber Security- 27 September, 2022

Gender Champions Club in collaborations with SAP-MGNCRE, Dean Girls Student and Dean Student Welfare Interactive Session on Youth and Cyber Security. Sh Ketan Bansal, Superintendent of Police, Incharge, Operations and Cyber Crime Branch, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest for the event. Ms Palak Goel, Dy Superintendent of Police, Sub- divisional Police Officer was the resource person. Through her insightful session on Women safety and Cyber Security, she highlighted various ways to handle vulnerable situations related to women and youth. SWAYAM Group of Chandigarh Police demonstrated various self-defence techniques. This was followed by Cyber Interns presentation on how to avoid and protect oneself from cyber harassments and other kinds of Cyber Crimes.
