Overview

About the Department

An introduction to our history, our teaching philosophy, and the scholarly tradition we work within.

The PG Department of Commerce is one of the oldest and largest academic units in the College. B.Com. was introduced in 1970, M.Com. in 2004, BBA in 2021, and the new B.Com. Tax Planning & Management programme in 2025.

The Department offers a comprehensive curriculum in accounting, finance, taxation, marketing, human resource management, business law and quantitative methods. Teaching emphasises both conceptual understanding and practical application, and faculty supervise dissertations, lead funded research, and mentor students for professional examinations such as CA, CS, CMA and the UGC NET.

Twenty-one permanent faculty members — three Professors, five Associate Professors and thirteen Assistant Professors — bring sustained scholarly and administrative experience to the Department. Several hold elected or nominated positions on Boards of Studies at Panjab University and other institutions.
