Established in 1998, the Postgraduate Department of Computer Science offers a wide range of undergraduate courses including B.Sc. (Computer Science), BCA and B.A. (Computer Science), along with postgraduate courses PGDCA and M.Sc. (IT / Data Analytics). The Department serves a large and diverse strength of approximately 2,100 students.
A dedicated team of 22 highly qualified and experienced faculty members guides students through a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical exposure. The teaching approach is interactive, encouraging participation in projects, presentations, coding exercises and collaborative academic activities.
The Department is well-equipped with modern infrastructure and has five laboratories with the latest computer systems and Wi-Fi connectivity providing a hands-on environment for students. It also maintains a well-stocked reference library for academic use along with a book bank facility that supports economically weaker students by providing them course books.
Regular workshops, seminars, expert talks and industrial/educational visits are conducted in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science and software development to keep students aligned with current industry trends.
The Department also has a strong placement record with students being recruited by reputed IT companies and multinational corporations like Infosys, Amazon, Accenture and Aricent. A team of 22 highly qualified and experienced faculty members — including 11 Ph.D. holders and several pursuing doctorate — led by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur (Professor & HOD). Specialisations span AI & Image Processing, Software Engineering, Database Systems, Web Technologies, Machine Learning, Networks and Data Analytics.

B.A. programme with Computer Science as an elective — combining humanities and social sciences with foundational computing skills.
One-year postgraduate diploma in Computer Applications for graduates from any stream, building practical IT skills for direct employment.
Two-year M.Sc. programme with specialisations in Information Technology and Data Analytics — covering AI, machine learning, advanced databases, networks and research dissertation work.

One-Day National Workshop on “Artificial Intelligence for Research: AI-Enhanced Smart LaTeX, Seamless Workflows and Mendeley Synergy” sponsored by PM-USHA Scheme, RUSA under the Department of Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration on February 18, 2026. Jointly organised by Chintan — Readers’ Society, Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha Library, in collaboration with the PG Dept of Computer Science, Faculty Development Cell and ICT Cell. Resource persons: Dr. Dinesh Kumar Gupta (Senior Professor, Dept of Library and Information Science, Kurukshetra University) and Dr. Rupak Chakravarthy (Professor, Dept of Library and Information Science, PU Chandigarh).
One-Day National Seminar on “AI In Every Byte: Bridging AI with Every Corner of Computer Science”, organised by the PG Dept of Computer Science in collaboration with the PG Dept of Chemistry on February 27, 2026. Sponsored by Dean College Development Council, PU, Chandigarh. Chief Guest Prof. Ravi Inder Singh, Dean College Development Council, PU, and Guest of Honour Dr. Manmohan Singh Kumar, Chairman, Sikh Human Development Foundation (SHDF), Washington DC, USA, highlighted the need for skilled human resource in the era of an AI-driven, transformative job market. An insight into the field of AI was offered through a panel discussion by experts Dr. Satish Kumar (Chief Scientist, CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh), Dr. Ravinder Singh (Head of Digital & Systems Team, Cabinet Office, UK Civil Services), Dr. Rekha Bhatia (Professor, CSE, Punjabi University Centre for Emerging and Innovative Technology, Mohali), Mr. Avinash Kumar Sharma (Founder & CEO, Avisoft Mohali) and Dr. Manmohan Singh Kumar. Expert lectures in the technical sessions were delivered by Prof. Akashdeep (UIET, PU Chandigarh) and Mr. Devashish Kumar (Director, CodroidHub Pvt. Ltd. and Devarsh Innovations Pvt. Ltd.). Inter-college IT Fest “TechBeats 2K26” on March 18, 2026 under the aegis of Professor Puran Singh Science Society to commemorate National Science Day 2026. Sponsored by Department of Science and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration; co-sponsored by Green Planet Society and Infomaths. 125 students from leading tricity colleges competed in Coding, Debate, IT Quiz, Collage Making, Website Development, PPT Presentation, Rangoli, Face Painting and Group Dance.
One-Day Workshop on “Advancing Intelligence with AI in Modern Data-Driven Systems” on March 30, 2026 sponsored by Department of Science and Technology & Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration. Resource person: Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, Associate Professor, Chandigarh Business School of Administration, CGC Landran. Hands-on session covered AI-powered content creation with Canva. 70 students and 13 faculty members attended.
One-Day Industrial Visit at Meander Software Pvt. Ltd., SAS Nagar Mohali on September 29, 2025, organised by Training and Placement Office in collaboration with PG Dept of Computer Science. 63 students led by 02 faculty members gained real-time exposure to IT industry workflows, modern tools and software development environments.

PG Department of Computer Science received 22 new computer systems with latest configuration under the PM-USHA Scheme during the 2025-26 session — further strengthening the Department’s hands-on laboratory infrastructure.
BCA students secured multiple prizes at tricity inter-college IT fests: 1st prize in Solo Beats (GCCBA Sector 50 — Harjugrajvir Singh, BCA-II) and Snippets Craft: On-The-Spot Software Development (GGS College for Women — Retesh Kumar & Dheeraj Narwal); 2nd prize in Debugging (GCCBA), Byte Battle IT Quiz, Web Architects and Slide Craft (TECHBEATS 2K26); 3rd prize in Debugging (PG Govt College Sec 46 & MCM DAV Sec 36-A); and 1st prize in Rhythm Euphoria (Dance) at TECHBEATS 2K26.
HOD Dr. Gurpreet Kaur served as Resource Person / Special Expert at the AICTE Training And Learning (ATAL) Academy FDP on “Harnessing AI: A Guide for Educators and Researchers” at Chandigarh Business School of Administration, Landran (February 03–08, 2025). Reviewer for IET Image Processing, Hindawi journals, Wiley publishers and multiple SCI journals.
Dr. Purnima received the Young Scientist Award at the World Congress on Science, Technology, Engineering and Management 2022 (International Conference) held on 2 October 2022 at BioGenesis Health Cluster, Bengaluru. Reviewer for PLOS One Journal (February 2025) and Hindawi portfolio of journals.
Nominated as Member, Board of Studies, University School of Computing (USOC), Lamrin Tech Skills University in 2025. Life Member of Indian Science Congress and Punjab Academy of Sciences. Convenor of the National Seminar “AI in Every Byte” on 27 February 2026.
Ms. Meena Jindal serves as Member, Board of Studies, PG, Panjab University (2023–2025) and was previously Member, Board of Studies, UG, Panjab University (2019–2021). Convenor of Techmedia Cell, Coordinator of Website Updation Committee, Co-Coordinator NEP 2020 Implementation and Co-Convenor SSR Committee for NAAC 3rd Cycle.
HOD Dr. Gurpreet Kaur has filed and received acceptance for a National Patent, alongside 13 journal publications in Web of Science, Scopus and UGC-Care journals and contributions to multiple Springer book chapters.
Cumulative research output of the 22-member faculty team includes 25 publications by Dr. Purnima, 18 by Ms. Manbir Sandhu, 16 by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, 15 by Ms. Anu Kaul, 13 each by Dr. Preet Kanwal and Ms. Khushwant Kaur, and 12 by Ms. Meena Jindal — spanning AI, image processing, cloud computing, software quality, data mining and educational technology.
