A legacy from 1966, upgraded to postgraduate study in 2006 — six dedicated faculty preparing students for NET, GATE, JAM and NBHM.
An introduction to our history, our teaching philosophy, and the scholarly tradition we work within.
Galilei once said, “If I were beginning my studies, I would follow the advice of Plato and start with mathematics.” With an aim to disseminate mathematical knowledge with ethical values, the Department of Mathematics of our prestigious college was established in 1966 and was upgraded to execute the postgraduate degree programme in 2006.
At the undergraduate level, mathematics is taught as an elective subject to B.Sc. (Hons.) and BCA I, II, III students, and is opted for by students of B.A. I, II, III. It is also offered as MDC, SEC and VAC. Diverse scientific disciplines include various courses in mathematics in their academic curriculum, such as Mathematics in B.Sc. Biotechnology (Honours). The postgraduate degree programme in mathematics is designed to impart mathematical training across at least twenty rigorous courses.
Effective teaching-learning techniques are adopted by a well-qualified, disciplined and dedicated staff of six faculty members, who prepare students to compete for national-level examinations such as CSIR-JRF-UGC-NET, IIT-JAM, NBHM and GATE. The Department also encourages student participation in national-level mathematics training programmes such as MTTS run at its different levels.

Undergraduate, postgraduate and add-on courses offered by the department.
Two-year postgraduate programme covering at least twenty rigorous courses in pure and applied mathematics. Mode of admission: non-centralised.
Honours degree with rigorous coverage of pure and applied mathematics. Mathematics is also taken as an elective by B.A. students at I, II and III year levels.
Mathematics taught as part of the BCA I and BCA III curriculum, supporting computational and quantitative training across the College.
Mathematics offered under the NEP curriculum as a Multidisciplinary Course (MDC), Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) and Value-Added Course (VAC); also embedded in B.Sc. Biotechnology (Honours).
